Special Education Nonpublic School

Oak Grove's school is certified by the State of California Department of Education Nonpublic Schools Division, as well as accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The school serves students from districts throughout California. The teaching staff is comprised of an excellent group of educators with expertise in the fields of learning disabilities and emotional problems. The school provides a continuum of services including self-contained classes as well as more traditional high school instructional models. Program tracks include graduation, certificate of completion, GED, CHSPE, and vocational / transition. Additionally, the school offers Designated Instructional Services (DIS) of Speech and Language and Occupational Therapy, as well as participation in community-based ROP, community college classes, and partial mainstreaming.

Oak Grove's Jack Weaver School has the distinction of being selected as one of only 50 schools throughout the United States, and the only Special Education School, to participate as a Class of 2005 NASA Explorer School. The Explorer Schools Program is sponsored by NASA's Education Office in collaboration with the National Science Teachers Association. Each year the program establishes a three-year partnership between NASA and 50 Explorer schools to enrich learning across the nation.

During the three years, the school will be able to work with NASA staff and others to create and apply strategic plans for staff and students. Learning agendas promote and support the use of NASA content and programs to address the local needs in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and geography education.
